useful idiots

Someone really needs to tell Amnesty International about the absolutely atrocious treatment of Gaza "Flytilla" activists by the Israeli government:

A lawyer who met some of the British activists on Saturday, Anan Odeh, complained that the conditions in which they were held was “shocking".

“They were put into trucks that they normally use to transfer prisoners,” he said in an interview posted online. “These metal trucks with metal chairs are very small. At least 12 people were put in one of these trucks and left there for a long time without food, drinks or air conditioning.

“After several hours they asked for food and drinks, but they got nothing. This to me is shocking to hear, as there are several men of age that were detained.”

How awful. Meanwhile, in Iran:

For example, a teenager using the name “Ardeshir” described his detention in an unofficial detention center where he was repeatedly raped and watched others being taken from cells to be raped.3 A young woman using the name “Sara” reported being repeatedly raped by her interrogator after refusing to disclose the whereabouts of her brother. She reported that her interrogator raped her “from top to bottom” and

useful idiots vladimir lenin canadian left wing socialist islamist alliance communist peace war politics

A popular but apocryphal legend tells us that Lenin cynically coined the term “useful idiots” to denote Western sympathizers of the Soviet regime.  A BBC radio documentary of the same name appeared last summer, outlining the history of such individuals, from Walter Duranty’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Stalinist propaganda in the 1930s to those who defend the authoritarian government of Iran today.  Useful idiots are also prevalent in Canada’s far left milieu, acting in support of such diverse causes as anti-democratic Islamism in the Middle East, Communism in Cuba, Bolivarian socialism in Venezuela, and even the re-establishment of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.  An overview of the far left scene shows us how each group specializes in the defence of a particular autocracy.  Like their Stalinist predecessors, these modern useful idiots are attracted to the ideological prestige and recruiting potential that come with such efforts.

The Canadian far left’s current direction on foreign issues began with the Iraq War in 2003.  Socialist Voice, an online magazine, emerged out of a 2003-2004 debate within the Communist League, a Trotskyist...More >>

drone strikes waziristan pakistan left right political usa liberal hawkPakistani liberal progressives hate the Taliban. They hate these fanatics who not only kill civilians but threaten the fragile stability of their civil society. And they laud American drone strikes against psychotic jihadists as a tactic that works far better than the Pakistani army's clumsy and half-hearted military assaults. Yet, as Terry Glavin points out, these leftists have been abandoned by the new left in the West. If anything, the West's political left seems to be stealing its talking points from Pakistan's far right. An excerpt from the National Post:

Here’s what they have to say: “NATO and ISAF are sent to Afghanistan under UN mandate. NATO and ISAF should stay in Afghanistan until terrorism is uprooted, foreign interference in Afghanistan must be stopped and the institutions of army and police are established on solid footings.” In case there is still any misunderstanding, the “Left” in Waziristan and NWFP insists that the ordinary people want to crush the Taliban, but they know they need the Americans to help them do it: “These people do not support

lowkey rap palestine terrorist jihad western bbcI first came across Lowkey while attending one of the many anti-Israel events that regularly take place at UCL, the surreal gathering which transported one to a parallel universe of truth and fiction dragged on for the best part of the evening. Before the standard ‘Israel’s an Apartheid State’ lecture got underway we were first serenaded by what I can only describe as an anti-Western propaganda anthem with a difference.

Now I can’t claim to be a big fan of Rap music but I have to confess that as soon as I got home I became engrossed in trying to find out who this angry young man in the video was and found myself listening to several of his tracks repetitively. It turned out that this part-Iraqi part-English hip hop ‘artist’ has been responsible for producing some of the most radically subversive and hateful music available for young opponents of Britain, Israel and America to date.

The track we had been subjected to was simply called ‘Terrorist?’ and while it came with the same self-contradictory and unsophisticated lyrics as it seems the...More >>
