If you don't like something that appeared in a newspaper, you can write a letter to the editor. You can put out your own press release to hopefully get some coverage that puts forth your point of view. If you have a blog or use social media, you can instantly make your own views public and wage battle in the war of ideas. This is what it means to live in a society where freedom of expression is respected.

The French minister of ecology, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, has a very odd understanding of the freedom her republic is meant to protect. In the wake of the firebombing of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, she states:

"If you are not happy with what's in a newspaper, you take it to court."
