NATO Afghanistan

That's a dubious way for the USA to define victory in Afghanistan:

Along the way, the Obama administration jettisoned Afghan democracy as the point of it all. It’s no longer required; something like a functioning state of some kind will do. In his June 22 speech, Obama was clear. “The goal that we seek is achievable, and can be expressed simply: no safe-haven from which al Qaeda or its affiliates can launch attacks against our homeland, or our allies.” All well and good for America and its allies, but for Afghans? “America will join initiatives that reconcile the Afghan people, including the Taliban.”

Reconciliation with the Taliban, then, is now what victory in Afghanistan is supposed to look like. That is the lofty ideal for which the United States expects Afghans to risk their lives and tolerate all those NATO bombs accidentally falling on civilians. It’s the thing America’s NATO partners are expected to continue to send their soldiers to die for in Afghanistan.

The Pakistani Taliban's latest child recruit for their suicide bombing operations? A nine-year old girl, kidnapped on her way to school. Fortunately, this one managed to get away.

No, the Taliban said they didn't favor having young children around because they weren't confident about their ability to keep their elite bearded fighters from raping the kids.

Apparently, just keeping them nearby was enough of a provocation for these lusty fellows:

"It's our policy not to recruit children - in order to prevent vice in our ranks because most Mujahedin are single men and spend a lot of their time away from their homes,

Let's not keep up any illusions that NATO really needs to do a better job of "winning hearts and minds" when the other side so consistently uses civilians as human shields and cannon fodder.

When Afghan President Hamid Karzai stops playing dangerous games by equating deliberate Taliban attacks on civilians with NATO's effort to protect them, we'll be a lot further ahead in this war.More >>
