Middle East politics

Egypt's Copts are done for.

The Christian sect is already fleeing the country in droves after the Arab Spring has emboldened Islamist supremacists to carry out ethnic cleansing -- with the full cooperation of the Egyptian military.

Close to 100,000 Christians have already fled Egypt. Any Copy with the means to do so will surely get out of a country where their daughters are kidnapped and raped, their sons torutured and murdered and their places of worship burned to the ground.

In the latest "cycle of violence", Egyptian security forces joined in with a Muslim mob bringing terror and death to group of Coptic protesters who were ironically demonstrating against the terror and death Muslim mobs have been bringing to Copts. A video of the violence clearly shows the driver of an Egyptian military armored vehicle trying to run over scores of Copt protesters.

Of course, this is not entirely a new phenomenon. The ethnic cleansing of Christians in Egypt has been going on since 639 AD, when Muslims first invaded the country. This is only the final stage in the attempted extermination of a people -- one that has already been repeated...More >>

It's hard to make friends with someone who hates you so much, they won't even acknowledge you exist. Or ever existed. Still, Israel keeps trying.More >>

What will the Middle East look like in the next decade? Impossible to know. But there are some clues. The next few weeks will be telling.

November brings with it several possible water-shed moments. Elections in Egypt (or not). The fall of the Assad regime in Syria (or not). Peaceful transition in Libya (or not). Declaration of a Palestinian state by the UN (or not). Additional riots in other countries (Jordan, Morocco, Lebanon).

What we are looking at is not merely a 'spring' but more of a 'four seasons' if you will. What will be of the Arab revolution?  Several outcomes are possible:

  • A liberal, Western style democracy (unlikely)
  • Ongoing military dictatorship (possible)
  • Islamization in varying degrees of radicalism (probable)
  • Failed states, fragmentation, civil war and ongoing LIC (depends on homogeneity)

To seek and acquire legitimacy the regime will fall back on common denominators, strengthen national identity (Islam and Arab unity) and unite the population against a perceived common enemy (Israel and the West). The incitement, hate education, blatant anti-Semitism and hostility towards Israel that have been prevalent in the Middle East for decades, even in Egypt with whom Israel has a signed peace treaty, is...More >>

So much for that Palestinian reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah we keep hearing about.

The West Bank returned to summer time on August 30, when the holiday ended. Gaza, which is separated from the West Bank by Israeli territory, did not.

Compounding the confusion, banks and universities in Gaza affiliated with the Palestinian Authority are keeping West Bank hours.

"When my wife calls me, she asks whether I want to have lunch Gaza-time or West Bank-time," a Gaza banker said. "It is ridiculous."

Israel - the Middle East's only Western democracy, which provides equality for all citizens regardless of politics, religion or ethnicity - is described by these Khomeinist "activists" as a cancer. And that's not the least of it.

This video was taken at the annual Al-Quds rally at Queen's Park in Toronto on August 28, 2011.

"Between all the guns and rockets we've already gotten from Iran and Syria, and now we've got all this Libyan gear from Moammar Gaddafi's bunker  - thanks for that, NATO - where do our friends think we can keep all this stuff?" says Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal.

"Seriously, enough already. My wife is constantly nagging me about all of the warheads we've got jammed into the basement. Our rec room is filled to the ceiling! And don't even ask me about the rocket-propelled grenades I have to keep in my son's closet."More >>

Hamas is looking to broaden the conflict with Israel by taking advantage of the Arab Spring:

Moreover, Hamas hopes to escalate the confrontation with Israel in order to influence the direction of the popular revolts in the Arab world and direct them to the issue of Palestine. Hamas sees the “Arab Spring” as an enormous opportunity to recruit the Arab masses against the pragmatic Arab regimes in order to force them to adopt a more anti-Israel policy. The operation in southern Israel sets the stage for a broad-based military escalation in Gaza during the month of Ramadan that could create shockwaves across the Arab world, where leaders are already having a difficult time dealing with the popular revolts of recent months.

This Hamas policy replicates that of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the parent organization of Hamas. The Muslim Brotherhood stresses the need to exploit the “Arab Spring” for mobilizing the masses to overthrow the Arab regimes as the first step towards liberating Palestine. After the fall of Mubarak, coordination between Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood has grown. Khaled Mashaal, the head of the Hamas political bureau, was just in Cairo meeting with

Syrian dictator Bashar Al-Assad's security forces doing what they do best: bombarding a city, firing indiscriminately at a village, and shelling a mosque.

When I recently called for the Freedom Flotilla "activists" to do some actual good and perhaps bring help by sea to Syria's suffering refugees, I had no real expectation that any would take me up on it. And they haven't, though some have indeed arrived in the Syrian capital to... oh, this is too good.

Wait for it... wait for it...

To stand in solidarity with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against "the schemes being plotted against him."

They're not even trying to hide what they're about anymore.

The Flotidiots have proudly revealed themselves as staunch defenders of a regime with a bloodthirsty reputation for repression, torture and mass killing and an ideology suffused with a totalitarianism, anti-Semitism, and daydreams about genocide.

Let their comrades already slinking back to their own countries in defeat try to explain this latest disgrace. They are known by the company they keep.

In a bid to quell discontent on the streets, Egypt's military caretaker government shuffled some cabinet posts.

The new rulers appear not to understand protesters' main complaint: none of the people in charge was ever given a democratic mandate by the people in the street to represent them in the first place.

The still-born revolution is rotting away.More >>
