Karl Pfeifer

An ancient hatred is stirring in the heart of Eastern Europe.

The "Magyar Hirlap" article reported on an opinion piece penned earlier this year by Karl Pfeifer, the veteran Austrian Jewish journalist, in the Vienna daily "Die Presse." In that piece, Pfeifer relayed the contents of an article by Zsolt Bayer, a Hungarian rabble-rouser with close ties to the ruling Fidesz party who passes himself off as a journalist.

Bayer's style mirrors the screeching, obscene rants of Julius Streicher, the editor of the Nazi rag "Der Sturmer." His inchoate tirade included a reference to "a stinking excrement called something like Cohen," followed by an expression of regret "that they" -- meaning the Jews -- "were not all buried up to their necks in the forest of Orgovany," the site of a pogrom during the Hungarian "White Terror" of 1919-20.

Pfeifer's apt description of Bayer as a "fecal anti-Semite" for his obsessive linkage of Jews with human waste was interpreted by "Magyar Hirlap" as an attack on Fidesz. Hence, the online reader comments on its coverage of Pfeifer's piece didn't hold back. Pfeifer, a Holocaust survivor, was called a "gas-chamber deserter." Contributors invoked the imagery of classic anti-Semitism --

Some years ago the Austrian weekly Zur Zeit, edited by Andreas Mölzer, an MEP of the Austrian Freedom party, published an article denying Nazi crimes, which is a criminal offence according to Austrian law. The Austrian police found the author of the article and he was prosecuted and condemned by an Austrian court.

The police did not want (or simply could not) find out which editor sent the article to the printer, although it is highly improbable that a freelance author could publish an article without the knowledge of an editor.

The same attitude seems to prevail in the case of the Austrian Neo-Nazi website Alpen Donau. Once more, the Austrian police appear unable or unwilling to find the perpetrators who breach Austrian law.

In either case Austria has a serious problem. Pointing out that the website is hosted on servers in the USA is a rather lame excuse.

Alpen Donau just published a new Logo showing the most urgent problem of the Austrian Neo-Nazis: Palestine.

While their anti-Semitic predecessors demanded "Jews to Palestine“, Apen Donau goes with the times and want their “Jews out of Palestine“. They propagate their preferred method, too: with...More >>

lethal obsession antisemitism global jihad Robert Wistrich Europe politics Israel ArabsA Lethal Obsession
Anti-Semitism from Antiquity to the Global Jihad

By Robert S. Wistrich
Random House 2010, 1200 pp.

Those who had hoped that the lethal Obsession of anti-Semitism would end with Hitler’s Third Reich have to admit that the image of the ‘Jew secretly pulling the strings‘ is still a potent symbol for diffuse anxieties about the global economy. Pogroms and prejudice continued in Soviet-controlled territories and in the Arab-Muslim world, ensuring decades of distrust, malice, and violence.

Fortunately for his readers, the historian Wistrich does not limit his scope to the past and offers a chilling picture of contemporary Anti-Semitism, an invaluable tool for anyone combating neo-Anti-Semitism in its many and various manifestations. The sheer quantity of facts compiled in the 1185 pages of this solidly documented book is overwhelming. Wistrich is scrupulously fair and generous, but outspoken where others dither cautiously.

Today not only the extreme right blames Israel for all global ills. Jihadi terrorists and a big part of the radical left aggressively join...More >>

mufti of jerusalem and the Nazis Berlin Years Klaus GensickeThe Mufti of Jerusalem and the Nazis
The Berlin Years

By Klaus Gensicke
Vallentine Mitchell 2011 (English translation), 301 pp.

We often hear from advocates of the Palestinian Arab cause the argument that the post-war establishment of Israel was unfair to the Arabs. Since the Arabs played no part in the mass murder of Jews during the Second World War (the argument goes), they ought not to pay the cost of what Europe had done to the Jews.

Gensicke documents the efforts of the Mufti of Jerusalem to contribute to this mass murder. He demolishes the claim that Arabs had no share in that crime.

Gensicke notes that Yasser Arafat and Amin al Husseini were not only related by blood. Arafat continued the legacy of the Mufti. Both Palestinian leaders were devoted to terrorism and fanaticism. As late as August 2, 2002 the Peace Nobel Prize winner Arafat referred to the Mufti as a “hero” and an inspiring symbol in “withstanding world pressure” and remaining “an Arab...More >>

Zsolt Bayer, the Hungarian writer infamous for his virulent anti-Semitism has published an anti-Semitic diatribe against Dominique Strauss Kahn:

“Strauss-Kahn and his IMF had their dicks sucked by half the world before the chambermaid did. The world sucked them off for money […] so Strauss-Kahn thought after a while why a chambermaid should resist him, when half the world is sucking him off. […]”

“We could leave it at that […]. We could lean back satisfied and think about how Strauss-Kahn wanted us [Hungarians] to suck him off about a year ago and how we disappointed him. […]”

“Let’s see what we know about this ‘Strauss-Kahn’ except for the fact that he is the president of the IMF and likes oral sex. We know that he was the potential challenger of French president Sarkozy. This brutal, sickening old pig (erőszakos, undorító vén disznó) would have been the left’s candidate against Sarkozy. […]”

“We know how lucky Sarkozy was during the last election. Do you remember?

The suburbs of Paris were burning. The Arabs and other colored [sic] immigrants had set towns ablaze and went on a rampage, beating up and killing people. And while the liberal intelligentsia issued stupid statements worldwide, the French

The present rightwing Fidesz government succeeded in tarnishing the once good reputation of Hungary. According to their inner-Hungarian propaganda this is purely the fault of the liberal and left wing media. On April 4th “The Economist” of London published “Tamas's tweets” [1], a short commentary on the language used by Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch who also happens to be Jewish: “There are pieces of shit. There are vile people. There are malevolent madmen. There are revolting dribbles of semen. There are disgusting rotters. And there is Gyurcsány.” And he has called also the former socialist prime minister “szarházi” or turd on occasion.

“Die Presse”, the conservative Vienna daily, published an article onJanuary 25th[ST1] about the journalist Zsolt Bayer: “Honors for a Fecal Anti-Semite”. [2] It was the very day the European Jewish Congress reported: “Prime Minister Orbán agreed with the EJC’s comparison of the New Anti-Semitism, in the form of an attack on Israel and classic anti-Semitism and said both are equally unacceptable.”[3]

According to the conservative Hungarian blog “mandiner” Tamás Deutsch stated in front of cameras

hungary second world war ww2 holocaust europe politics antisemitismAccording to the conservative Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Viktor Orbán told the European Parliament in Strasbourg on January 19th that the Hungarians had “paid the greatest sacrifice for democracy in blood and population during and after the Second World War.” (Die Ungarn hätten im Zweiten Weltkrieg und auch danach das “meiste Blut und die meisten Menschen” für die Demokratie geopfert.

Who sacrificed whom? The mass deportations of 450.000 provincial Jews to Auschwitz-Birkenau, which took place in only seven weeks from May 15th 1944 to July 6th 1944 after the German occupation was implemented by the Hungarian Ministry of the Interior and the Hungarian Gendarmerie, who brutalized the ghetto inhabitants cruelly before herding them into cattle cars; The same Gendarmerie that is honored with a commemorative plaque in the Military History Museum of Budapest.

One of Orbáns close friends is the journalist Zsolt Bayer, who sports Fidesz party membership book number five. He insulted the British journalist Nick Cohen, the Green politician Daniel Cohn-Bendit and the world famous pianist András Schiff as “stinking...More >>

europe antisemitism nazi politics media repubblicaDecades of obsessive Israel bashing by left wing media leads sooner or later inevitably to genuine anti-Semitism. Examples have come from the communist Rome daily "Manifesto“ and the post communist "Unità“. Now the left-liberal "La Repubblica“ follows suit.

On January 13, 2011 a report was published about illegal transmission of currency (five and a half billion Euros) to a Swiss bank to evade taxation. Precisely 5.645 Persons, families or firms were involved. A computer specialist stole such a list from a bank and gave it to the French authorities. The Italian authorities received it from there.

In Italy the Rome state attorney received a list with the names of about 700 persons and 100 firms according to La Repubblica.

Listed are many individuals and firms of the "roman upper class“

Couturiers, jeweler, internationally well known scientists, wives of industrialists are on the list.  As example most of the names are qualified by profession or belonging. Included in this list one can find the following: “Under the families with Jewish names (followed by three names)”.

A quick research in the internet shows that other...More >>

hungary censorship europe antisemitismI am told not to be alarmed when I encounter aggressive anti-Semitism in Hungary. After all there exists a vibrant Jewish culture in Budapest and there was hope the “conservative” Fidesz government would curb the development of aggressive Anti-Semitism - although it is tolerating the implicit and not so implicit Anti-Semitism of some Fidesz journalists at present. But Fidesz is supposed to do this only to attract Jobbik voters. A dim hope indeed, when a random sample of Hungarian media proves the continuing anti-Semitic incitement after the overwhelming victory by Fidesz at local and national levels.

There are the Fidesz politicians who light Chanukah candles and Fidesz media like “ECHO TV” and the Budapest daily “Magyar Hirlap” (both owned by Fidesz millionaire Gábor Széles) who regularly distribute anti-Semitic incitement, often in its crudest form.

One of the arguments for a new media law in Hungary was the anti-Semitism present in Hungarian media. But traditional Nazi propaganda can be legally rehashed and is taken for true by many Hungarians. They consider the Jews who pull the strings behind the scene as the root of...More >>
