Free Dominion, which bills itself as the voice of Principled Conservatism, has been dragged into a Kafka-esque legal donnybrook that could have far-reaching consequences for Internet users, bloggers and new media publishers across Canada. Whether you're from the left, right, or smack dab in the center, this issue affects you.

Check out the Free Dominion Internet Defense Fund Initiative:

On June 14, 2012 the Ontario Court of Appeals issued a ruling in blogger John Baglow's appeal of Superior Court of Ontario Justice Peter Annis’ widely-lauded dismissal of Baglow’s defamation suit against a fellow internet political debater, Roger Smith, and the operators of the Free Dominion website, Mark and Connie Fournier. The appeals court did not overturn Justice Annis’ dismissal because he erred in finding that the comment was not defamatory, but because the case raised a number of public interest and legal issues that the higher court felt should be dealt with by having a full trial.

Oddly, although going through a full trial will be an expensive and time consuming process for us, we are pleased with their finding. We see it as a golden opportunity to make important fundamental law that will

  • Do you get angry when the United Nations comes out with a report condemning a free democracy while giving the tyrants of the world a free pass?
  • Sick and tired of politicians and "human rights" covering up for for terrorists while thumbing their noses at the soldiers fighting the bad guys?
  • Wish US President Barack Obama would take a different approach to foreign policy that doesn't involve supplicating tyrants and handing over suitcases of cash to corrupt entities (just like every other US president before him)?
  • Think Noam Chomsky and Naomi Klein get it wrong -- oh, so very wrong?

Terry Glavin Canada AfghanistanCanadian sacrifices and Beijing’s looming shadow

A conversation with Terry Glavin, author of Come from the Shadows: The Long and Lonely Struggle for Peace in Afghanistan and co-founder of the Canada-Afghanistan Solidarity Committee

There can be little argument that Canadian troops have played a critical role in Afghanistan, whether driving the Taliban out of Kandahar or providing training to Afghan security forces and helping rebuild needed infrastructure.

But despite Canada’s ongoing commitment to helping the Afghan people find liberty and self-determination, policy vacillation in Washington is creating an opening the Chinese government is all too willing to exploit, says journalist Terry Glavin, author of the book, Come from the Shadows: The Long and Lonely Struggle for Peace in Afghanistan, and co-founder of the Canada-Afghanistan Solidarity Committee.

After having failed to lift a finger in support on the United Nations action in Afghanistan, Beijing is now rushing in and acquiring vast copper and other mineral leases as well as forming ties with the Pakistani ISI while the...More >>

This Chinese factory worker labors 60 hours a week for low wages and was told that if she were interviewed by foreign media, she'd be criminally investigated.

I'm sure she's happy to have the job and considers it a step up from even worse work in the countryside. And I'm not suggesting that all the companies that do business in China pull up stakes (only to set them down again in Vietnam or Indonesia). But of all companies out there, you'd think Apple could afford to provide its workers with better conditions. They're still making more than 30 percent profit margin on their products, while their competitors are fighting over crummy 4 to 6 percent margins.More >>

Official multiculturalism in the UK speeded up under the Labor party and continued under the present government has led to broken borders, segregated communities, increased violence and a broken welfare state. Now the government says "Enough."

Such, Labour claimed, was its commitment to ensuring that only people with a right to be in Britain could come here that in 2008 it set up the UK Border Agency. The truth, unfortunately, was very different.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, has announced that the agency is being wound up next month precisely because it is useless, and the officials who ran it — rather like the borders they supposedly policed — were out of control.

Despite the strong threat from international terrorism, the evidence of eastern European criminal gangs infiltrating Britain, and our overburdened public and social services, 500,000 unchecked people were let in to Britain via Eurostar between 2007 and last year, while countless so-called students were just nodded through.

The Pakistani street has spoken.

"America deserves one treatment. Jihad, jihad."

That's so nice! Why yes, we do appreciate the suggestion to engage in an inner spiritual struggle so that we can become better people. You people are so kind.

I'm sure that when they say, "Death to America", what they really mean is that America needs to get beyond the lethal political gridlock that has killed our public discourse and embrace a more positive approach. So wise. So generous with their advice.

I really wish America was more like Pakistan. It must be just lovely over there.More >>
