Pakistani doctor Shakil Afridi helped the USA track down Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. For his efforts, he has been tortured, permanently disabled, bankrupted and broken in jail. That is where he may remain for the balance of his 33 year prison sentence, for the bogus charge of funding and supporting the Lashkar-e-Islam militant group.
“I tried to argue that America was Pakistan’s biggest supporter – billions and billions of dollars in aid, social and military assistance -- but all they said was, ‘These are our worst enemies. You helped our enemies.’”
This man ought to be treated as a national and international hero. Instead, most Pakistanis see him as a traitor for helping the USA, if they remember him at all.
