Wait One Minute Here
April 26th, 2012
The headline reads Pakistan's top court convicts PM of contempt, but that's mostly misleading.
Yes, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was convicted. For one minute. Which he spent in the courtroom.
One minute or being found guilty of contempt, for refusing to go after his old political colleague, President Asif Ali Zardari, for allegations of corruption.
How is that one minute not the main element of the headline?
The story here is not the Pakistani PM's conviction for contempt, or allegations of corruption, but the shambles that Pakistan's legal system has become. Convict a man, or don't.
