The USA Cuts Defense Spending. More Bang for the Buck?
A cut in American defense spending is long overdue. People can disagree about whether the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were worth it in a number of ways, but when it comes to dollars spent, there is no debate: hundreds of billions of dollars have been pissed away on corrupt foreign "contractors" who as often as not were funneling part of their proceeds into the hands of jihadist insurgents. Then there are the systemic problems like a top-heavy military bureaucracy and advanced fleets of stealth aircraft that are not particularly useful for house-to-house combat. And there's the nuclear deterrent: how many times do you need to be able to blow up the entire planet before you feel safe?
