UNESCO Bites Hand That Feeds With Predictable Results
USA: The countries of UNESCO are free to vote as they like. But they cannot expect us to keep funding an organization that acts against our interests.
UNESCO rep: Well, we want Palestine to sit on UNESCO, even though they are not a country formally recognized by the United Nations and this step may actually make conflict resolution between Israelis and Palestinians less likely.
USA: That is your right. It's a majority vote. We have no veto here.
UNESCO rep: OK, it is done.
USA: OK, no more US funding for UNESCO. Let the new Palestinian member cover your $60 million shortfall. In the meantime, you and a number of your colleagues may want to start putting out resumes.
UNESCO rep: But, but, but...
USA: Take care, y'all.
PALESTINIAN ENVOY (to UNESCO rep): You did the right thing. If you want, you can sleep on my couch. This is going to be great!
