Can We Start Behaving Like Imperialists, Please?
Just this once. As Afghan President Hamid Karzai's latest speech falls just short of calling international forces murderers and occupiers (though a later speech apparently pulled no such punches), it is one more reminder that this fool has to go.
Karzai: Either you fire your Taliban speech-writer or we replace your corrupt, incompetent regime with a puppet who will at least take $500 billion in military and development aid with some sense of humility and gratitude.
NATO wouldn't have to target civilian houses if the Taliban didn't routinely use them as forward operating bases and arms caches. There would be no accidents involving civilians if the insurgents would obey the Geneva Conventions, but that's not going to happen.
If the Afghan National Army isn't ready to take on the insurgents where they live, then there are two options: NATO soldiers do the dirty work, or the Taliban re-takes Afghanistan house by house -- with dire results for the civilian population.
Karzai has to go. Now.
